The 2nd Khemmis album 'Hunted', will be released in October; Tour Imminent

It's been relatively quiet on the release front for 20 Buck Spin since we dropped the Oranssi Pazuzu album back in February. We've concentrated on pressing a lot of catalog while we spent time preparing for Migration Fest, now less than 3 weeks away.

BUT, we've also been preparing for the new Khemmis album, and can finally announce that it's going to be released on October 21st. CD / LP / Digital formats as usual. The LP itself may come in November depending on the turnaround time at the pressing plant.

The album, once again recorded in Denver with Dave Otero, is called 'Hunted' and contains the following 5 tracks at a running time of approximately 44 minutes:

1. Above The Water
2. Candlelight
3. Three Gates
4. Beyond The Door
5. Hunted

The cover art has been handled by Sam Turner again, the same artist that created the iconic 'Absolution' cover, and can be seen below - we think it's equally if not more incredible.

Details regarding the physical formats:

CD: Digipak CD with booklet. Foil-stamped logo/title on the front.

LP: Single LP jacket, Foil-stamped logo/title text, 8 page 8" inch booklet insert.

Color Variants for LP:

• Black
• White Inside Electric Blue (20BS exclusive ltd. 150)
• Sea Blue Inside Ultra Clear w/ Silver & Black Splatter (20BS exclusive ltd. to 150)
• Aqua Blue (Sold exclusively through Revolver/Midheaven ltd. to 150)
• Silver (Sold exclusively in Europe through our European distribution partners ltd. to 150)

Below is the official press release sent out today which includes some forthcoming tour dates about to go down:

Denver, Colorado-based powerful doom metal quartet KHEMMIS has completed their second full-length album, and is preparing the mighty Hunted for Autumn release through 20 Buck Spin, this week unveiling the cover art, track listing, and other details. The news comes as the band prepares to tour the Western half of the country in transit to their performance at the first annual Migration Festival the second weekend of August.

Using the same team as their lauded debut, Hunted was recorded at Flatline Audio with Dave Otero (Cobalt, Nightbringer, Cephalic Carnage) and features artwork by Sam Turner (3 Inches Of Blood, Black Breath, TRVE Brewing). Hunted is undoubtedly an album that will solidify KHEMMIS’ place at the vanguard of doom’s most notable modern manifestations, in large part because they transcend the label itself. They’ve seamlessly blended their influences into an extraordinarily listenable album worthy of countless spins. With such a glut of music released nowadays, Hunted stands apart, rewarding repeat listens with songs seared straight into the heart.

KHEMMIS’ upcoming West Coast tour will begin in their hometown of Denver on August 4th, with Salt Lake City, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Los Angeles, Oakland, Sacramento, and Portland on the itinerary leading up to the band’s performance on August 12th at Migration Fest in Olympia. The festival also features the slated first live collaborative performance by The Body and Krieg, the first live public performance by Panopticon, a set by Australian funeral doom behemoths Mournful Congregation, and sets by Auroch, Christian Mistress, Full Of Hell, Krallice, Magic Circle, Nightfell, Obsequiae, Vastum, Vhol, and others.

KHEMMIS Tour Dates:
8/04/2016 HiDive – Denver, CO
8/05/2016 The Metro – Salt Lake City, UT
8/06/2016 OMD Theatre – Las Vegas, NV
8/07/2016 The Rogue – Phoenix, AZ
8/08/2016 The Griffin – Los Angeles, CA
8/09/2016 Golden Bull – Oakland, CA
8/10/2016 Starlite Lounge – Sacramento, CA
8/11/2016 Ash St. Saloon – Portland, OR
8/12/2016 Migration Fest – Olympia, WA

Hunted comes just over a year after the release of KHEMMIS’ stunning Absolution debut, which caught the doom world by complete surprise, and set the band up as one of the scene’s favorite new artists. The album slowly but surely steamrolled all that came in contact with its unforgettable heaviness and classic melodicism. Virtually unknown outside Denver upon release, the band gathered acclaim over the ensuing months and by year end had landed in the #9 spot on Decibel Magazine’s annual Top 40 Albums Of The Year, not a small accomplishment for a band on its debut album.

Now their follow-up album, Hunted, reveals a KHEMMIS fortified in its purpose and vision, forging an unrivaled synthesis between immense doom riffs and ‘Maiden-esque harmony. Overall song length has increased yielding more expansively arranged and dramatic storms of elegance and melancholy. And yet the band’s members are not content to plod through a sea of tears; they are always a rock band first, in service to the movement of the song, even approaching a High On Fire-like pace to open the pummeling “Three Gates.” The lauded singing of vocalist Phil Pendergast reaches ascendant new heights on tracks like “Candlelight” and “Beyond The Door,” while the tasteful use of harsh vocals remains, providing a dark foreboding contrast. The thirteen-minute title track once again closes the album with an epic stunner.

20 Buck Spin & Gilead Media Announce Migration Festival

20 Buck Spin & Gilead Media are putting on a Fest in Olympia, WA this summer. Migration Fest will take place Aug 12, 13, 14 at the Capitol Theater in downtown Olympia. Come hang out with us for a few days and bask in the Northwestern Summer. Initial list of bands below; more bands & official artwork to come. Full press release below.

Watch these sources for updates on lineup, ticket info & more (we'll post on label media as well):

Web: Migrationfest.us
Facebook: fb.com/migrationfestival
FB Event Page
Twitter & Instagram: @migrationfest

20 Buck Spin and Gilead Media, two of underground metal’s leading underdog record labels, will join forces in Summer 2016 to present the inaugural Migration Festival in Olympia, Washington. Jointly conceived by the two labels, Migration will primarily showcase bands from each label’s roster, as well as select other affiliated and respected artists, highlighting the distinct and contrasting styles that makes each label stand out.

Set to take place at the historic Capitol Theater in downtown Olympia on August 12, 13, and 14, the rich musical history of Washington’s small capital city makes an ideal location to celebrate the work of two labels successfully operating outside the boundaries of the big city music business.

Bands already confirmed for the festival include: Auroch, The Body & Krieg collaborative performance, Christian Mistress, Dead To A Dying World, False, Fórn, Full Of Hell, Khemmis, Kowloon Walled City, Krallice, Mutilation Rites, Nightfell, Obsequiae, Pale Chalice, Thou, Vastum, Vhol, and Yellow Eyes. Approximately 6 additional bands, including some headliners, will be announced later. There will also be separate after-shows to occur at a smaller local venue.

Ticket information, including price and on-sale date, will be announced in the near future. A full list of suggested local Olympia hotels, bars, restaurants, and other businesses will also be published soon. Nearly all of which will be within walking distance of the venue.

20 Buck Spin was founded in early 2005 in the East Bay Area of California and has been based in Olympia, WA since late 2007. The label has released approximately 80 records during that time steadily increasing its yearly output and range.

“I’d heard Adam (Bartlett, Gilead Media boss) was thinking of coming West to do the next iteration of Gilead Fest. I’d been thinking of doing something similar myself for years but never had, and so suggested we join up and do something together. Adam was immediately receptive and the idea for Migration Festival was born right then.” said David Adelson, 20 Buck Spin founder. “Olympia felt right since I’m already based here, and because of its small size and walkability this is a great place to have it, both for locals, and for out-of-towers.

Gilead Media was founded in 2005 in Toledo, Ohio, and in 2007 relocated to Oshkosh, Wisconsin, the hometown of founder Adam Bartlett. Since its inception the label has focused on releasing thought-provoking art from across the spectrum of dark and heavy music.

Says Bartlett, "After two successful installments of my own Gilead Fest in this small Wisconsin town it seemed like the time was right to branch out and try something different. The idea to work with Dave and his label on a collaborative event makes perfect sense given our similar music backgrounds and diverse, but complimentary label families. And Olympia serves as the perfect central location for this type of festival."

More information regarding bands and other Festival details will be announced in the coming weeks and months. Stay tuned to each label and the Migration Festival social media and website.

New Oranssi Pazuzu track stream & album pre-orders

Today via the Spin Magazine website we've premiered a new Oranssi Pazuzu track 'Hypnotisoitu Viharukous' (which loosely translates to 'Hypnotized Hate Prayer') from the 'Värähtelijä' album (translation 'Resonator').

Auroch 'From Forgotten Worlds' LP To Be Released By 20 Buck Spin

Today we announce the first vinyl pressing of Vancouver BC based Death Metal band Auroch's debut album 'From Forgotten Worlds'. Featuring all new artwork the LP will be released in March with a limited color version for 20 Buck Spin mailorder customers. Read the full description and hear the album in full now below:

Looming over Vancouver, BC is an invisible dark energy, trapped in shadow, that imbues the region’s Death Metal, with a most turbulent methodology. Blasting outside time and out of mind, reaching deep into the lowest places of the Earth, the inhuman entity called Auroch encapsulates the distant thousand eyed doom of the cosmos, long hidden, frozen to the core and ripe to be awakened once more.

From Forgotten Worlds assails throughout its duration, summoning incongruous black symmetry, with onerous Dark Death Metal chaos that extends a direct blood lineage began by Morbid Angel, Gorguts, Timeghoul, Kataklysm, Cryptopsy and other reapers of the whirlwind. Rites such as Pathogenic Talisman (For Total Temporal Collapse), Fleshless Ascension (Paths Of Dawn) and the opening title hymn rip across the skies rending flesh from sickly bones of the fallen.

Pulled from obscurity and issued for the first time on vinyl, featuring completely new and improved artwork via Cold Poison (Acherontas, Nightbringer, Dodsengel), 2016 begins an increased period of ferocity for Auroch with several US Festival appearances and shows confirmed and additional releases to come.

Happy New Year: Where's My Order?!

Happy New Year folks: As noted on the front page of our site recently, our shipping department was closed between December 24th and January 3rd, during which time we had everything on the site on sale. In the first week of the year we dropped the Magic Circle LP. Then the MGLA LP showed up. And now the Aevangelist LP has taken hold.

Needless to say orders have been coming in at a faster rate than usual for January! We are pleased of course, but are running 4-5 days behind right now. We ask for your patience. Rest assured your order is going to come, and assuming you provided a proper email address, you'll get notified when it ships.

We'll likely not respond immediately to the inevitable "where's my order" inquiries until we've had a chance to catch up. You will receive a shipment confirmation email when your order ships. Thanks for understanding! We'll be back to the usual 24-48 turnaround soon enough.
